WHAT WE DO
Our traditional still meads are packed full of that Sleeping Bear Farms honey goodness and our own special touches. A traditional (still) mead is made from honey and water. Also known as a show-mead, these are some of the most ancient alcoholic beverages in the world. The history of mead goes back thousands of years. We put a modern spin on these ancient beverages.
Whether it’s raspberry rapture you seek or the refined taste of oak, you’ll find a mead to satisfy.
Many moons ago, a batch of our raspberry honey creme from our sister company Sleeping Bear Farms turned out a bit thin – and to fix it, we turned it into mead. We called it “Razzmatazz” – and it was the start of St. Ambrose Cellars.
Since then, we’ve added Cherry, Rose‘, Oak Barrel, Star Thistle, Tupelo Mead, and more.
Sample where it all began for St. Ambrose Meadery with a taste of these unique takes on the ancient beverage of mead.
You can find draft mead bottles at one of our Michigan retail outlets or you can order them online.
Draft meads start with the traditional honey and water mead base – and then we had special flavors (like blackberry) and carbonation to create a delicious, refreshing mead you can enjoy like a beer.
Several of our drafts feature a special sour flavor that we’ve worked hard to perfect. You can learn more about sour mead here with our owner Kirk Jones. Draft meads are 6% ABV and come in 16.9oz bottles.
